“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
God not only establishes us with Jesus as our root system in our daily life through the Holy Spirit, He also gives us the ability to see Him on a daily basis. While we wont see Him visibly until Heaven, our hearts will see Him through the Word. The Word IS God.
I admit, it is a little mind blowing to view a book as living. It is even a bit stranger to think of a book as being a person. However, this is the beauty of God. We can’t fully comprehend His ways.
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it can be easy to fall into the trap of believing there is something more important to do than read the Word of God. We know it is the most important use of our time, so why is it so hard to live it out at times?
Life is complicated. It is filled with:
- Discouraging moments
- Lack of time
- Doubts and Fears
- Distractions
- Lies
- And more…
But there is a beauty hidden behind all of the negatives, Jesus. We are told in God’s Word that God never changes. We are told He is perfect, righteous, the truth, and just (Deuteronomy 32:4). Speaking personally sometimes it is hard to read the Bible because it doesn’t always make sense. It feels frustrating when things seem to contradict each other, or we can’t grasp what the scripture is talking about. While it is frustrating that our human minds can’t always comprehend it, God tells us in His Word He is so far above our understanding. We can let go of the need to try and understand it all perfectly, We will NEVER understand Him this side of Heaven. However, He shows us who He is in His Word. He is PERFECT. Rest in this truth and dive in anyway. Dive in despite the questions, frustrations, and anything else that distracts you. Dive in because the more we dive in the more we desire it. The more we desire it, the more God will open our eyes to see what He wants us to see. The beauty of the living Word means that it moves us each personally. We don’t have to understand it perfectly for God to teach and move us through His word.
Take a moment to ponder that incredible truth. We don’t have to understand God’s ways because of the simple fact that His ways are perfect. God can’t lie. When He tells us He has a perfect plan and that He is working everything out of good…He is! He gave us His Word to be close to Him and learn about Him. Life wont ever stop, but we can stop and rest in Him. We can see His glory through His Word. As we grow to love His Word more and more everyday we will grow in peace, thankfulness, and wisdom. Jesus sustains us because He is our root system, however the Word is part of Him. It is vital for our well being to grow in the love for the Word because it IS Jesus. The Word is bread and water. When we know and love the Word the Holy Spirit can bring it to us during the day to help us live it out. It is the key to sustaining us forever.
I know it isn’t easy to find the time to drink deeply from the Word. Just As God’s ways don’t always make sense, trust in the fact that the Word is the most important and productive time in your day. It sustains us through our day and it changes our hearts to love and serve Him more. When we are rooted in Jesus and are drinking deeply from His Word, NOTHING can shake us. We can confidently and bravely move forward each day knowing we are sustained by the Perfect One.
