“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
The foundation for our salvation, Jesus Christ, can both be an easy thing to park ourselves on, or an easy thing to take for granted. As Christians, we are called to grow in our understanding of the Word. We are to always remember the foundation we are building on, but never take it for granted. Our spiritual house should be built on that foundation. If we decide to sit on the foundation of Jesus Christ, without ever building anything on it, we will get pretty beat up by the weather. We need to add to our foundation walls, rooms, flooring, furniture, and food. We are called to be actively building upon Jesus Christ, not just safely sitting on the foundation.
How do we build on Him? We grow in the principles of the Word. We look at Christ’s life and pray that He would teach us how to mirror it. We look at our own hearts and see where we may be blinded, or unwilling to grow. We allow Jesus to completely take over our heart and teach us to do the things that come unnatural to us. We allow Him to work on us each and everyday to look more and more like His image. The more we grow, the more our image should reflect His.
It becomes difficult when we don’t fully understand the principles laid out for us in the Bible. If the principle is not black and white, our human minds tend to stress out a little. It is natural to look for a method to follow. But like in the Old Testament, we see that no matter what methods were in place, people failed. Jesus came to say, I am the way. He wants us to look to Him for answers. It is hard to wrap our minds around when answers are not always given. But He can do anything. He can work in our hearts and teach us how to look to Him for everything–including Spiritual growth and understanding of the Word.
As we journey this life together, let’s always look to Jesus. He will guide us. He makes rivers in the desert. He will guide us to learn from Him. He will show us how to grow in understanding of His Word. Jesus is our foundation. Let’s all build upon Him by His leading and direction. He is our method. Let’s all allow Him to work in our hearts to make clear the things He wants us to see clearly on!
