Last week my friends and I did a “favorite things” Christmas gift exchange. I had never done that before and it was fun. Basically everyone bought their favorite things (we did a total of $10….ahem how many books can I buy with $10 :)). We each bought three of the same thing then brought them to the party. We then each left with three gifts of someone’s favorite things.
It was really cool to find out my friends favorite things…and I may have picked up a few new favorite things in the process. While I can’t do a gift exchange here on the blog, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite things with you! Chime in on the comments sharing a few of YOUR favorite things! Its fun to discover new things!
A Few of my current favorite things:
Crazy Cool Threads: I am a sucker for graphic shirts with meanings. It’s a way I can remind myself on a daily basis truth and what is important. Plus they are just comfy shirts. I have ordered numerous shirts through this site and always have a hard time picking. I will say tho, their shipping time is FOREVER, some shirts took over 2 months to come and their customer service isn’t the greatest….but their shirts are AWESOME.
Peet’s Coffee Subscription I have become a coffee snob. My favorite coffee is dark roast “coffee flavored coffee” (as my brothers says) from Peets. I have signed up for their subscription service and get one bag of the Columbia flavor a month. I usually go through more than one bag a month so I will tack on another flavor every now and then. I like the subscription service because it is free shipping. Order whole bean and get yourself a grinder and a french press so you can have fresh coffee everyday :). Buying directly from Peets also gives you the freshest roast.
reMarkable: I stumbled upon this on a homeschooling video. I instantly fell in love with it. The price seemed pretty steep for what it was but I ended up getting one anyway. I am so glad I did. If you are an avid journaler, a writer, a note taker, etc you may love this as much as me. I have only had it a short time but I have already used it both for homeschooling and in my writing life. I love how it organizes all my notes and journals in one place.
Write that Book Group: I joined this group about a year ago when God laid it on my heart to write historical fiction. I LOVE it. If you are wanting to learn more about writing fiction, this group is your place. There is a bit of non-fiction, but overall I would say its geared more for fiction writers. Once a month she does a brainstorm session with anyone who wants to join the zoom call. She has one night for fiction writers and one for non-fiction. It has been very valuable to me!
My favorite Kids things
Character Cards: Too often I can forget I need to teach my kids things that in my mind they should simply know. When I tell them to be respectful, do they know that that means? I love these character cards to help me teach my kids what character traits mean. Each card had a related Bible verse, the definition, and four ways they can be more______ (whatever the character trait is you are working on.) So far we have done attentiveness, cheerfulness, and are working on respectful currently.
A few of my favorite children’s books:
The Oak Inside the Acorn by Max Lucado: This book makes me want to cry every-time I read it. It’s all about being who God made you, to not compare yourself to others or try to do things you are not made to do.
It will be Okay by Lysa TerKeurst:This is a sweet story about a little fox who was scared of everything and a seed who liked to stay comfortable and safe. They go on a journey, fearful and not totally understanding what is happening and at the end realizing the farmer (a picture of God) is loving, kind, and can be trusted.
Gloria’s Big Problem by Sarah Stiles Bright: If you want to get in my head read this book. Goodness poor Gloria is followed around by a big green monster that tells her all the things that could go wrong (blizzards in June…). Gloria is too afraid to do things because of what could happen. It was such a good picture for me to imagine a big green scary monster telling me all these lies so I could tell him to stop. It has been a good resource for me oldest daughter who (cough) is alot like me.
A few of my favorite reads this year:
From Dust and Ashes by Tricia Goyer
Free of Me by Saron Hodde Miller
Under the Magnolias by T.I. Lowe
The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
Seated with Christ by Heather Holleman
